YELLOW - COLDPLAY

Beginner’s Course Grade 3, Module 18

This is a really cool song, but the trick is, you have to get the tuning right! There’s a small tuning tweak that you have to make if you want it to sound anything like the record, which is easy. All you have to do is tune the high E (thinnest) string down a half-step, (one semi tone) to D#. I’ve suggested some strumming patterns below but the most important thing is to get the chords down, for which I recommend simple down strums to begin with. Then progress to eight down strums and finally a pattern that I think is far closer to how it should be played. I have named the E chord ‘E’, which may sound obvious, but actually it may not be. With the tuning tweak it actually becomes an Emaj7, but I’ve referred to it as ‘E’ just for simplicity as the song uses an E chord grip.
